Will is a government employee/ land trust staffer. From an old family, but Will is average.
Polis (love or hate) built a muti million dollar business and Fitz-Gerald has risen to be elected President of the Colorado Senate.
Self made millionaire, President of the Senate and bureaucrat. “Compared to who?” well that’s who. Comparitively Will is average at best.

Shafroth is not a government employee nor is he a land trust “staffer.” He is the executive director of Colorado Conservation Trust, and while you may consider that a “staff” position as opposed to someone on the board, he established and runs the organization which has raised and distributed many millions of dollars.

If that is your definition of what “average” people do then fine. I am more than happy to support someone who isn’t an insider or part of the “elite” to represent us in Congress.

He’s going to take votes from Jared’s hide, not Joan’s. Joan will get 40% at least and the others will split the rest. It’s her seat to lose.
Here’s how it works…..
Joan raises and spends a fortune (as does Tim Gill’s 527) trashing Jared over A-41 and anything else available. Jared retaliates in kind. After this mutually-assured destruction has taken place, the primary voters are thoroughly disgusted with both Joan and Jared. Shafroth (or Alice Madden or Ron Tupa or whoever is the third candidate in the race) eeks out a 40% win in the primary.
This actually happened in the California Democratic gubernatorial primary in ’98 when the two heavy weights with $$$ trashed one another so badly that Gray Davis, the relatively poor, boring guy in the race, eeked out a win.

I have heard a lot of talk from people who live in the second CD that nobody really knows what JF stands for. Those from the People’s Republic are saying she recently seems to have dollar signs in her eyes when it comes to her positions as a senator. Additionally, Boulder has a tendency to vote for the greenest candidate, and Shafroth can probably get that nod. Lastly, whoever wrote about the two front runners knocking each other bloody, taking swipes at each other and positioning a third candidate well, was quite correct. Shafroth could be the one to come in and bat clean up.
I might take that even a step further and speculate on the possibility of a third-party candidate winning in CD-2. A solid green party candidate could get votes from mountain ski towns, Boulder (especially CU kids), and other land conservation groups. I haven’t heard of any such person looking at the race in such a way, but it’s still an interesting possibility to consider — especially if Udall and the Dems in Congress continue to aggravate extreme Boulderites with their moderateness and, well, reasonableness I guess from a population looking for something close to revolution.
Just a thought.
